19th Century Scottish Waistcoat Vest, Dated 1856- M/L
Truly wonderful, mid 19th century Scottish dress waistcoat in a rich and jubilous red color. This piece features all of its solid metal buttons bearing the country’s notorious emblem, the Thistle. Features two front, functional pockets. Buckle cinch back has its manufacture date stamp, “1856”. Along with the word, “Paris,” as they must’ve imported materials for clothing. The inside is lined in a cotton stamped “Glasgow, Clothier.” Outer shell feels like a velvety, velveteen material. This piece would have likely been worn in a full ensemble with kilt and sporran.
This piece can be cinched to fit a wide range of sizes. When uncinched in the back it can fit up to a L/XL. I felt it was very flattering when I wore it and I am around a size 6 modern dress size. A fabulous piece of wearable history.
