Late 1800s Calico Wrapper Dress- S-S/M
Absolutely stunning, late 1800s wrapper dress with the most beautiful floral print. These early floral textiles always leave me in awe, unable to look away. This one features a lattice design with ecru white and cornflower blue florals, as well as a particular design within the black squares that almost appears molecular, but alas is probably some type of fauna. Has a sash that can be tied in back or wrapped around the front to cinch the waist. The yoke is double lined and I feel like I could wear this being a size 6. I’d recommend for a size 4-6 max so as to now stress the fabric. This piece has various mends throughout, particularly heavy on the bottom of the skirt. These were done by sewing machine and though not the most beautiful thing up close, but it is sturdy and pretty unnoticeable when wearing. I’ve reinforced an area near the placket and there are some mends on the cuffs, as well as on the back near the tie and back of the neck. Someone also reattached the sash with some red thread, this is only noticeable if tied in the back. Overall I do think this dress is wearable with care, like for parties or events, just nothing too strenuous. This textile is likely older than the date it was made and is something to be cherished. Would make a beautiful study piece or an item for a collector.
